Underwater World of Trout Volume 3 : "Trout Vision and Refraction "
Every angler knows the frustration of lining a fish. After finding that big fish actively feeding, we make a cast where we think it should be, and — quick as a flash — it’s gone. What you forgot about was the law of refraction. That fish wasn't quite where you thought it would be. You thought it was six inches below the surface. But how deep was it, — one foot, two feet, — or was it deeper? How large was it’s “circle of vision”, and does it matter?
Sound confusing, well it’s surprisingly easy once you understand what is happening. Refraction has an impact on how we view a trout and its world, and conversely how a trout views us and our world.
Do trout really have blind spots? How low must you be before they are aware of your presence? Does it matter what you wear and how you move? You’d be surprised at the little things that will put a trout down. We’ll watch through a trout’s eyes how mayflies and tricos float into the trout’s window — and see what the trout sees first. We’ll see that “imprint”, and the “sparkle” that you only read about. Most important of all, we will also see that “magnification of the fly” that takes place as the fly enters the trout’s window – something you may have never read about. Why are comparaduns and parachute flies so effective — does the reflected double image of a streamer, a wet fly, or an emerger cause a trout to miss? How well can trout see both above and beneath the surface?
In this third installment of The Underwater World of Trout, we explore why what you see isn’t what the trout sees. More importantly, you’ll learn to interpret what you actually see to better understand what really is happening under the water.

The 5th International, 2010 Experience the World of Flyfishing
The most complete exhibition in Europe for flyfishing!
Just in time for the fishing season, the comprehensive information and sales exhibition “The 2010 Experience the World of Flyfishing (EWF)" will open its doors for the 5th time on 17. and 18. April 2010. This is a true highlight and "must see" for all fly fishers and those who wish, in a wonderful environment, to inform themselves about fly fishing and to enjoy the highly varied products offered. The EWF takes place near Munich at the Fürstenfeld Cloister Exhibition Center in Fürstenfeldbruck and can be very easily reached.
About 90 well-known exhibitors from within and outside of the country will present over 130 high-quality brands. Company representatives and manufacturers will be personally on site. In addition, international personalities, authors, publishers, artists, travel companies, fly-fishing schools, casting experts, and fly tyers will provide for a highly varied and exciting time.
Internationally known fly tyers and casting instructors (for both single- and double-handed rods) will be demonstrating their skills. Various casting areas, including two large casting pools and the Cloister canal, will invite you to try your own casting. The extensive program is rounded out by special events for women and beginners, children's fly tying, a casting clinic, and a number of informative presentations about general travel and fly fishing. In addition, the 3rd Open German Fly-Tying Championship will be held as part of the 2010 EWF-- all interested tyers are strongly encouraged to participate!
Including last year, Experience the World of Flyfishing has taken place four times -- the 2850 visitors in 2009 show the success of the EWF! The fundamental idea has been to bring the flyfishing family together with personalities in the field in an outstanding atmosphere. Particular emphasis has always been on the latest developments in terms of products as well as services. Our first four years, with a total of about 8000 visitors, have been a convincing demonstration of the complete success of the concept. This success has been greatly helped by numerous enthusiastic supporters and by the overall sponsorship of the German magazine "FliegenFischen" ("Flyfishing").
Especially satisfying is that the exhibition spaces are already again fully booked. We conclude that quality is greatly desired!
Testimonials from the EWF between 2006 and 2009 indicate, "The atmosphere and the comprehensive offerings of information and products make the EWF loved and unique for visitors from Germany and its neighboring countries." The conclusion from the 2006 to 2009 EWF is clearly: Keep to it!

Graag willen wij ons aan u voorstellen. Wij, dat is de Eerste Zeeuwse Vliegvisvereniging ‘Lure and Emerger” is een betrekkelijk kleine vliegvisvereniging. Maar wat ons voor Nederlandse begrippen bijzonder maakt is het feit dat we over een eigen viswater kunnen beschikken. Het gaat om een afgesloten plas in de omgeving van Goes van ruim 7 hectare met helder zoet water. We beheren de plas, een voormalige zandwinplas inmiddels zo’n tien jaar. Jaarlijks zetten we enkele honderden kilo’s forel uit en daarnaast zwemt er nog karper, baars, snoekbaars en rietvoorn rond. Voor de forel hanteren we het catch and release systeem. Het viswater is het hele jaar rond voor onze leden beschikbaar en er mag uitsluitend met de vliegenhengel worden gevist. De plas leent zich ook uitstekend voor het vissen met de bellyboat.
Voor de verenigingsactiviteiten stellen we een jaarprogramma op met tweewekelijkse bijeenkomsten en gezamenlijke visdagen en vistrips. In de winterperiode staat het vliegbinden regelmatig op het programma dat zowel voor beginners als gevorderden is bedoeld.
Op dit moment zijn we in de omstandigheid dat ons ledenbestand nog kan groeien. Daarbij hanteren we wel een bovengrens. Onze leden komen niet alleen uit de provincie Zeeland, maar ook uit de omgeving van Rotterdam en Breda.
Onlangs toen een inwoner van Antwerpen zich als lid bij ons aanmeldde, realiseerden we ons dat we goed bereikbaar zijn voor de inwoners van het noordwestelijk deel van Vlaanderen, België.
Wij nodigen daar wonende vliegvissers dan ook van harte uit om lid te worden van onze vereniging.
Om eens kennis te maken met ons viswater bieden wij de leden van vliegvisverenigingen de mogelijkheid om eens een dag te komen vliegvissen. De kosten daarvan zijn € 15,00 per persoon. Dit is dan wel aan het maximum gebonden van 4 personen per dag. Er wordt gevist onder begeleiding van een van onze leden. Binnenkort is de regeling met betrekking tot het aanvragen beschikbaar op onze website.
