It is with a heavy heart that we at FVV have decided to stop organizing the Fly Happening.

Over the years, the Fly Happening has grown into a wonderful event where fly fishers, clubs, exhibitors and enthusiasts could come together. That is precisely why this decision is anything but straightforward.

We must also take a realistic look at developments over recent years. It is becoming increasingly difficult to put together a fully-fledged trade fair. The number of exhibitors is falling, partly due to the strong growth in online sales, and there is less and less variety in the range of products on offer.

At the same time, fixed costs continue to rise sharply. To keep the event financially viable, a significant increase in admission fees would be necessary. We do not consider this a good solution, especially given that even the previous edition, which had more participants, was already operating at a loss.

The challenge is growing from an organizational perspective as well. It is becoming harder to find enough volunteers for setting up, dismantling and the practical organization. Within the FVV we also see a decline in the number of affiliated clubs and members, which has consequences for the support base of an event such as the Fly Happening.

We have not taken this decision lightly. It was taken after a thorough assessment of future prospects and financial viability.

We look back with great appreciation on the many wonderful editions of the Fly Happening and on everyone who devoted their time, energy and enthusiasm to it over the years.

We bid farewell to the Fly Happening with a heavy heart. At the same time, we believe it is important to keep looking at our club realistically, responsibly and with an eye to the future.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Fly Happening what it was.

Kind regards,
FVV
